In a clash of the conference on Saturday, May 3, 2025. The Mentor Cardinals lined up against the Strongsville Mustangs. The Cardinals come into this game at 9-7 overall and 1-3 in their conference. The Mustangs came into this game at 8-6 and 3-0 in their conference. One team looking to improve in their conference and the other looking to extend a streak. Both teams were ready to get a win.

The Mustangs got off to a fast start in the first quarter with three goals and some excellent defense. The Cardinals struggled to get into their offense because how pressing the Mustangs were out the gate. There were some near goals for the Cardinals but ultimately, Strongsville was poised and focused to get stops by any means necessary. #17 Hayley Huston, #5 Kenzie Clayton, #28 Rayann Muhammad all contributed toward 5 goals in the 2nd quarter. Huston was the player of the half for me, her fingerprints were all over this game. The play of the half would have to go to #77 Lilly Drenski assisting #12 Sofie Adanitsch with a sweet dime that led to the 7th goal of the game.

It was truly a dominant performance from the Mustangs on this rainy day. Despite weather conditions, Strongsville was on their A game the entire time. The first half ended at 9-0 in the Mustangs favor, it looked like the game was headed toward a shut out. That is until #18 Abby Harps for the Cardinals got one to go at the start of the 2nd half. Kenzie Clayton returned that favor and was able to score their 10th goal off an assist by none other than Lilly Drenski. #17 Ella Predina was able to score a second goal for the Cardinals at the end of the 3rd quarter. But by that point, the game was written in stone as it was 10-2 to end the third quarter.

With multiple goals from both sides, highlighting players like Rayann Muhammad, Sophie Adanitsch and Allanah Hagan from the Mustangs and Ava Lee from the Cardinals. The final score was 13-3 in dominant performance by the Mustangs who look to move on to Medina for their next game. Both teams displayed the strong will to play in this muggy weather and there is nothing to be taken away from the Cardinals, the Mustangs were just simply the better team today. The player of the game for me would have to Hayley Huston, the combination of her defense and overall offensive game was the spark that the team needed to get this win.
