Strongsville Mustangs Defeat Berea-Midpark Titans On A Rainy Friday Evening

Strongsville – The Strongsville Mustangs (1-2) hosted the Berea-Midpark Titans (1-2) at Pat Catan Stadium in a rainy non-conference game for week 3 of OHSAA high school football. The Mustangs were able to trample their way to a 21 to 6 victory over the Titans through the bitter cold and sheets of rain.

Quarter one was very uneventful, lots of back-and-forth action showing how strong each the Titans and the Mustangs defenses were. Then the Mustangs were able to crack into the Titan defense caping off a 6-minute drive with a 11-yard touchdown run by running back #27 Sam Dimacchia. Then a very short drive by the Titans would wrap up the first quarter.

After some more back and forth action the last 4 minutes of the second half proved to be pivotal, and of course this is when the rain came down, in sheets. The Mustangs started with the ball deep in their own territory in but on the first play of the drive #5 Justin McDonnell of the Titans intercepted the ball and the Titans got the ball back on the 10. The Titans are able to capitalize on this opportunity and cash in a touchdown off the keeper from quarterback #6 Danny Bowser, but after an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on the Titans that pushed the PAT attempt to the 35, the PAT was missed. After the Titans kicked it off the Mustangs just stepped harder on the gas pedal, staring at their own 20-yard line, they began methodically moving down the field, including a 27-yard run from #16 Jeramiah Pa-teet and a 34-yard run by #27 Sam Dimacchia. Capping off a successful drive quarterback #17 Nolan Beard bobbled the snap but was able to recover and punch it in for the 5-yard touchdown to cap off the half, making the score Mustangs 14 to the Titans 6.

After some more back and forth action by both teams during the third quarter the Mustangs are able to get it moving again but were stopped by the Titan defense after a timeout to rethink things. The Mustangs then went into field goal formation to try to put 3 more points on the board but end up faking and the Titan defense were able to blow up the play for a loss of 4-yards and a turnover on downs to end the third quarter.

And again, some more back and forth throughout the fourth quarter. Lots of running made the clock keep on ticking but again it was the Mustangs who caught a break with #16 Pa-teet making a break for it and catching a 39-yard touchdown pass to bolster the Mustang’s lead. Titans then tried to get something going but were unable to. On the 29-yard line the Titans lined up for a punt but ended up faking it. They didn’t get a first down though so it was a turnover on downs. After some more back and forth action the game ended with the Mustangs on top.

Player of the game goes to #27 of the Mustangs, running back Sam Dimacchia. He rushed for 109-yards and was influential in the Mustang victory.

The Berea-Midpark Titans (1-2) will start Southwestern Athletic play next week as they host Avon Lake High School at George Finnie Stadium on the campus of Baldwin Wallace University. The Strongsville Mustangs (1-2) will take on the Benedictine Bengals at Don Shula Stadium on the campus of John Carroll University.
