Strongsville Mustangs Beat Brunswick Blue Devils 24-7 in Battle of Boston Road

Brunswick, Ohio – The Brunswick Blue Devils hosted the Strongsville Mustangs at Brunswick Auto Mart Stadium for the anticipated conference rivalry Battle of Boston Road matchup. The Mustangs went on to secure a 24-7 week ten win over the Blue Devils on the road.

Strongsville started off the game with the ball on their own 25-yard line. The Mustangs drive was short-lived on six plays, resulting in a punt. The Brunswick offense began their first drive on their own 42-yard line. The Blue Devils offense was halted by a strong showing from the Mustangs defense, forcing a turnover on downs to set the offense up on their own 41-yard line. Strongsville kept the ball on the ground and moved into field goal territory.

Kicker Vincent Roncone drilled a 43-yard field goal to give the Mustangs a 3-0 lead with 1:30 remaining in the first quarter. Brunswick began their next drive on their own 20-yard line. The Blue Devils offense was halted short, resulting in a punt. The Mustangs went to receive the punt but bobbled the return, resulting in a recovery by the Blue Devils, setting the offense up on the Strongsville 27-yard line to end the first quarter.

Brunswick had difficulty moving the ball through the air, resulting in yet another punt. The Mustangs and Blue Devils alternated their next respective drives with punts. Strongsville began their next drive on their own 49-yard line. The Mustangs offense kept the ball moving on the ground and made it into the red zone.

Quarterback Jack Kasner threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Austin Tatulinski to give Strongsville a 10-0 lead with 0:19 remaining in the first half. Brunswick started their next drive on their own 20-yard line. The offense ran one play before heading into the locker rooms down 10-0 going into halftime.

Brunswick started the second half with the ball on their own 20-yard line. The Blue Devils offense was more productive on the ground to begin the third quarter. After a few successful runs, quarterback Sean Barnett took a deep shot to wide receiver Gavin Moore that put the Brunswick offense on the 1-yard line. Barnett took a quarterback keeper into the endzone for a 1-yard rush, making it a 10-7 Strongsville lead with 9:20 remaining in the third quarter. Strongsville began their next drive on their own 20-yard line. The Mustangs offense trying to replicate the great first half they had ran the ball well to begin the drive. Quarterback Jack Kasner launched a deep shot to wide receiver Alex Espay to get the Mustangs offense into the redzone. Kasner connected with Espay again, this time resulting in a 17-yard reception touchdown, giving Strongsville a 17-7 lead with 6:12 remaining in the third quarter. Both Brunswick and Strongsville alternated punts on their next drives. Brunswick started their next drive on their own 1-yard line to end the third quarter.  

Going into the fourth quarter, the Blue Devils made a short drive down the field, but were stopped short on a heavy blitz, resulting in a turnover on downs and the Mustangs offense starting their next drive on their own 46-yard line. Strongsville, trying to put the game away, scored a touchdown on a 54-yard reception touchdown caught by wide receiver Austin Tatulinski, giving the Mustangs a 24-7 lead with 4:04 remaining in the fourth quarter. Brunswick began their next drive on their own 30-yard line. The Blue Devils offense tried moving down field, but the Mustangs offense forced a costly fumble and melted the remainder of the clock away, resulting in a 24-7 road victory over their main rivals.
