It was a nip and tuck game, loaded with defense, but in the end, the Solon Comets hung on for a thrilling 14-10 victory over the Strongsville Mustangs. Strongsville will now host Berea-Midpark next week, in hopes of obtaining their first win while the Comets host Shaker Hts in their third straight home game to open the season.
At first, it looked as though it was going to be a high scoring game as Ky Robinson picked off Nolan Beard to start the game for Solon. A few plays later it was a Jack Sanders touchdown run from short distance to put the Comets up 7-0 quickly. Moments later Solon would strike again as Cooper Walker took a jet sweep 80 yards to pay dirt. In a little under 5 minutes to start the night, the Comets already led, 14-0.
Crazy enough, the Comets wouldn’t score again the rest of the night, and it was enough to gain the victory. It was only second later following the Comet dash for six, that the Mustangs did the same thing. For Strongsville, it was Kendrick Boddie blitzing down the field for a 80 yard score, cutting the lead in half at 14-7.
The game remained 14-7 until late into the third quarter when the Mustangs converted a 34 yard field to cut the Comet lead to 14-10 with 45 seconds left in the game. Strongsville nearly took the lead in the fourth on a Kendrick Boddie touchdown, but it was called back for a block in the back.
Later in the fourth, the Mustangs had another touchdown called back this time because of an ineligible man down field. Finally, the Mustangs had one more chance at winning the game as they had the ball down to the Comets 16 with 32 seconds on the clock, when another Beard pass was picked off to seal it for the Comets.
PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN, THANK YOU!
