Streetsboro, Ohio – Friday night in Streetsboro, it was history in the making. Senior running back Krys Riley-Richardson had 17 carries for 90 yards and two touchdowns, and a 51-yard reception for a touchdown, propelling the Streetsboro Rockets to a 49-13 victory over the Field Falcons.
Sophomore quarterback Maysun Klimak got the scoring started in the first with a 10-yard rushing touchdown. The Falcons would tie it up in the first quarter when senior running back Zavier Smith punched it in from five yards out.
It was a defensive standoff in the second quarter before Klimak hit senior running back Krys Riley-Richardson for a 51-yard touchdown reception with 2:15 left in the quarter to give the Rockets a 14-7 lead going into halftime.
From there on, the Rockets offense had liftoff. In the third quarter, they recovered an onside kick attempt, and junior running back Donovan Washington-Perdue took it in from six yards out to add to the lead. After the defense forced a turnover, Klimak found Carter Giacomo for a 60-yard catch and run to the house.
Klimak also contributed to the winning effort, rushing six times for 75 yards and a touchdown, and going two of five passing for 113 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Krys Riley-Richardson would second of his three all-purpose touchdowns to add to the Rocket lead, 35-7. After a Field score, senior defensive back Andrew “Biggie” Douglas would pounce on a fumble in the end zone late in the third, and Riley-Richardson would find the end zone in the fourth for the final margin.
Also of note, senior kicker Andrew Sway converted all seven extra points, setting a new school game record.
“It was a good old-fashioned football game in the first half. Field had a great game plan coming in by running the ball and eating up clock. As far as home games, that was a different position that our kids have been in. We knew we were getting the football in the second half and we challenged our guys to pick it up in the third quarter. If we wanted to be the team we thought we could be, we had to pick it up in the third quarter.” said Streetsboro head coach Pete Thompson.
With the win Friday night, the Rockets improved to 8-0 for the first time in school history. They also clinched at least a share of the PTC Metro Division.
“Our kids are excited about the win, but our focus is on Woodridge. We have not beaten them in several years, and they’re the defending PTC Metro co-champions. Our kids are excited about tonight, but Monday, it’s back to work.” he added.
Next week, they travel to Woodridge looking to improve upon that mark and take the PTC Metro Division outright.
Field came into Friday night’s game 11th in Division IV, Region 13, according to JoeEitel.com. They needed a win to stay alive in the playoff race. In the first half, the Falcons seemed to ground the Rocket offensive attack until Krys-Riley Richardson’s touchdown reception late in the first half. They looked to respond, driving down the field before the end of the half, but a touchdown reception by Chris Culbertson was called back due to a holding penalty, and the Falcons were held off the board.
“Congrats to Streetsboro. They’re a heck of a football team. They’re 8-0 for a reason. They have a lot of good players and coaches over there and they played a great game tonight. It was a close game in the first half, and in the second half, they made adjustments.” said Field head coach Levi Nelson.
Junior quarterback Jacob Gartner scored a rushing touchdown from five yards out for the Falcons’ only points in the second half.
With tonight’s loss, the Falcons dropped to 3-5 overall and 2-3 in the PTC Metro Division. They host Akron Coventry next Friday night.
