Kent, Ohio – Senior infielder Aidan Vober’s bases-clearing double in the second inning sparked Stow-Munroe Falls to a 5-4 victory over Uniontown Lake Saturday morning.
After a scoreless first inning, Aidan Vober jump-started the scoring with a bases-clearing double to left field to make the score 3-0 in favor of Stow-Munroe Falls.
“It was a close game at that point, so I just barreled the ball up and brought three runs home. Today’s win is big because we have some energy to carry on into the next week.” said Vober.
Uniontown Lake would add a run in the bottom of the second on a single to left field. Logan Brady would add a single to left field to plate another run in the bottom of the fourth to decrease the Blue Streak deficit to 3-2.
In the top of the sixth, senior Chase Brooker delivered a two-run single to left field to increase the Bulldog lead to 5-2.
“It was big because the whole team was ready for it, and we needed that boost of energy.” said Brooker.
The Blue Streaks would add two more runs in the sixth inning. First, junior Logan Brady would hit a double to right center to cut the deficit to 5-3. And Caleb Collins would follow with an RBI grounder to cut the deficit to 5-4.
Aidan Vober walked Cade Dellinger to lead off the seventh inning. But after a bunt and a groundout, Vober induced another grounder to end the game and pick up the save.
“Chase (Brooker) played really well for us today. We knew it was gonna be a Johnny Wholestaff game with the pitching staff and everyone came out, threw strikes, and did their job.” said Stow-Munroe Falls head coach Aaron DeBord. “I’m proud of our kids today. It was a good win.”
Stow-Munroe Falls improves to 10-11 overall. They take on Cuyahoga Falls Monday afternoon to continue Suburban League play.
“We had several opportunities to put ourselves on top, but we didn’t take advantage. When you play a good team like Stow, those opportunities come back to haunt you.” said Uniontown Lake head coach Joe Anderson. “We have mistakes we need to fix, and if the kids keep fighting, that’s all you can ask.”
Uniontown Lake drops to 10-11 overall. They travel to Ellet Monday afternoon for a non-conference contest.
