Akron, Ohio – The St. Vincent-St. Mary Fighting Irish shut out visiting Holy Name, 8-0, at Green Street Stadium on Monday night.
Senior midfielder Gwen King opened up the scoring with a goal 28 seconds into the contest to put the Fighting Irish ahead, 1-0. It would not take long to add goal #2, which came just 14 seconds after, and the lead increased to 2-0.
Senior attack Lindsey Germain scored at the 3:11 mark of the first quarter to make the margin 3-0 in favor of the Fighting Irish.
King added two more goals in the second quarter, at the 8:45 and 3:40 marks of the second quarter, respectively. Gianna Pillitiere added one less than thirty seconds later, increasing the margin to 6-0 at end of the first half.
Amelia Oldfield scored in the third quarter to increase the lead to 7-0.
King capped off her big evening with her fifth goal of the game, which came with 5:16 to play.
Junior goalie Leah Stillwagon secured the shutout for the Fighting Irish Monday evening.
The Fighting Irish will travel to Poland on Wednesday, March 27th. Holy Name will host Lakewood on Monday, April 1st.
