St. Joseph Academy uses strong first half to prevail over Strongsville, 10-7

Strongsville, Ohio – The Saint Joseph Academy Jaguars got two early goals in the first half and rode that momentum to a 10-7 win over host Strongsville Thursday evening at Pat Catan Stadium.

Senior Jenna Wagner scored four minutes in to put the Jaguars ahead, 1-0. She added a second goal nine minutes later to increase the mark to 2-0.

Qunnipiac lacrosse commit and senior Iris Polly scored with 10:43 left in the first half. This increased the St. Joseph Academy lead to 3-0. Strongsville responded with a goal from freshman Addie Owen-Kren with 7:08 left to get on the scoreboard.

With 1:27 left in the first half, Bryant commit Elise Larsen scored to make the score 4-1. Junior Tori Wanat responded for Strongsville with 34 seconds left to cut the Jaguar lead to 4-2.

The Mustangs cut their deficit to 4-3, thanks to an early goal from Alyssa Glenn. It didn’t take long for SJA to respond though, countering with an Elise Larsen goal less than a minute later.

Two more goals from Iris Polly and Sarah Scott bumped the Jaguar lead to 7-3.

Sarah Scott wasn’t done scoring yet, as the University of Tampa commit scored three more goals (around a goal from Sophie Adanitsch of Strongsville), and the Jags lead stood at 10-4 with 3:34 to play.

The Mustangs got three late goals from Tori Wanat, Sophie Adanitsch, and Delaney Dudas for the final margin.

St. Joseph Academy (5-2) will face Columbus Academy and Sycamore on Saturday, April 22nd. The Jaguars were led in scoring by Sarah Scott, who had four goals. Iris Polly, Elise Larsen, and Jenna Wagner each had a pair.

Strongsville (8-3) will face Dublin Coffman and Hilliard Darby on Saturday, April 22nd. Junior Tori Wanat had three goals for the Mustangs, and sophomore Sophie Adanitsch added a pair.
