Rocky River, OH – The Lady Pirates of Rocky River welcomed in the Jaguars of St. Joe’s Academy for some late regular season lacrosse action. Both teams battled hard all night, but in the end, it was the Jaguars earning their seventh straight victory 14-6.
Rocky River native, Iris Polly got the scoring going early for the St. Joe’s Jaguars as she found the back of the net just 2 minutes into the contest. Daisy Thompson was quick to find the equalizer however, and it was tied up at 1, just like that. Moments later, River won the draw and set up a play to place Kaitlyn Byrne in perfect position to score and give the Pirates the lead with an incredible spinning shot for the goal!
After a time out, it was Kara Wagner with a free position goal to even it up for the Jaguars as the first half continued to be back and forth. Moments later, after winning the draw, Iris Polly scored again with a sharp spin move to give the Jaguars the lead back at 3-2. Seconds later, a shooting space call, gave the Jaguars a free position shot in which Elise Larsen lit up the net to increase the SJA lead 4-2.
Free position was the cause of the next Jaguar goal as well, as they improved their advantage to 5-2 with their 4th straight goal. Soon after, a Yellow Card on Sarah Scott gave Grace Dewitt a chance at a free position goal, which she converted to tighten the lead to 5-3 SJA. It wasn’t long until the Jaguars slowed it down, took their time and connected on Kara Wagners second goal of the game. The Iris Polly hat trick in the closing minutes of the first half, made it a 7-3 Jaguar lead at the break.
After Daisy Thompson scored her second goal of the game for River, it was Kara Wagner grabbing the hat trick to make it 8-4. Goals by Sarah Scott and Mackenzie Koeth answered a Reagan Connelly goal to increase the Jaguar lead to 10-5. From there, Iris Polly’s fourth goal increased it to 11-5 and put the game out of reach.
The Jaguars hung on for the 14-6 win.
Congrats to the Rocky River JV Squad for winning 9-4 in the opener tonight.
The Lady Jaguars will close out their regular season this Saturday on the road as they travel to Bishop Waterson High School. For the Pirates, this concludes regular season action, they begin postseason play next week.
