St. Ignatius Wildcats Defeat Sylvania Northview 5-0 to Remain Unbeaten

Written by JJ Felder

CLEVELAND, OH –    The St. Ignatius wildcats came out on top in the ‘’Wildcat derby’’ against the Sylvania Northview Wildcats at Krenzler field.   This win follows up victories last week against Avon and University School.

The first 20 minutes were cagey for both teams with little chances and each team trying to establish dominance in midfield.  After 23 minutes, St. Ignatius took the lead on a goal from senior captain Dom Ruggiero on a clever assist from fellow captain and senior, Bryce Ince-Lovelace.  Soon after, Sylvania Northview continued offensive pressure on St. Ignatius with two late chances, the last being a header just wide by senior Brayden Sutton.  First half ended 1-0 for home team.

The second half kicked off with a sense of urgency from the St. Ignatius attack, with immediate pressure on Sylvania Northview’s goal.  Senior Sam Trivisonno shot wide while Dom Ruggiero struck the post on shot from outside the box.  On the 54th minute, Bryce Ince-Lovelace added to the wildcats score with a long shot from outside the box to make it 2-0.  Minutes later, St. Ignatius were awarded a penalty kick which Ruggiero converted to make it 3-0.  Ruggiero completed his hat-trick with a header on an assist from senior captain Declan Walters.

Even at 4-0, the Sylvania Wildcats continued to attack with dangerous runs from Brayden Sutton.   Late in the match, Trivisonno shot on goal which was initially blocked by Sylvania goalkeeper with a diving save which allowed sophomore Cormac Kruchko to find the back of the net.   The match ended 5-0.

St. Ignatius moved to 8-0 while Sylvania Northview moves to 5-3-2 on the year.   St. Ignatius will host Massillon Jackson this Thursday evening at Krenzler field while Sylvania Northview will take on Perrysburg at home on Tuesday.

The Ignatius Wildcats defeated Avon 5-1 last week and University School 4-0.  Sold goalkeeping from junior Johnny Mulloy and goals from Ince-Lovelace, Trivisonno, Kruchko, Ruggiero and assists from Nate Gray and Zac Radman helped seal the victories
