From the opening minutes, St. Ignatius was the more aggressive team. The Wildcats controlled possession and consistently pressured Brunswick’s defense. St. Ignatius created plenty of scoring opportunities in the first half, recording 14 shots compared with just one from Brunswick. Despite the offensive pressure, the Wildcats couldn’t find the back of the net, sending the game into halftime tied 0-0.
Brunswick goalkeeper Artur Vasylkevych played a major role in keeping the game close. Vasylkevych recorded eight saves in the first half as St. Ignatius kept attacking.
Brunswick came out with more energy to begin the second half and matched St. Ignatius’ aggression during the opening minutes. However, the Wildcats quickly regained momentum. St. Ignatius continued creating opportunities, including several chances off corner kicks.
The Wildcats finally broke through with 7:20 remaining in the second half. Gray Galauner found the back of the net to give St. Ignatius a 1-0 lead.
St. Ignatius continued to control the game after taking the lead. The Wildcats recorded 15 shots in the second half, while Brunswick was held without a shot. Vasylkevych added another eight saves, finishing the game with 16 total saves.
Behind a strong defensive performance and consistent offensive pressure, St. Ignatius walked away with a hard-earned 1-0 victory.
