St. Ed’s Eagles Soar High For America With 35-18 Win Over Clarkson North

With a final score of 35-18, St. Eds sent North Football home with a loss. Three key players in the Friday night contest were running back Josh Gribble and defensive lineman Wyatt Gedeon of St. Eds, and running back Brandon Ward of North Football.

Gribble rushed for 84 yards on 24 carriers with an average of 6 yards per carry. Ward rushed for 100 yards on 15 carriers with an average of 6.7 yards per carry. Wyatt Gedeon led the front line for St. Eds with 2 huge sacks.

Late in the opening quarter, an interception recovered at the 7-yard line by St. Ed’s linebacker Johnny Slaper led to a touchdown by the skilled Marvin Bell. This got the ball rolling for the St. Edward Eagles after a slow start. At the end of the first quarter, St. Edward led 7 – 0.

To open up the second quarter, North Football had offensive possession but not for long after the blitz by Bradley Eaton on 4th down. Running back Josh Gribble dominated the rest of the second quarter for St. Edward. Gribble’s continual gain of yards led to his very own touchdown with around 2 minutes left in the half.

Another touchdown by Marvin Bell put 6 more points on the board for the Eagles in the middle of the 3rd quarter. Brandon Ward was able to answer for North Football with a 10-yard touchdown. After a failed 2-point conversion attempt, the score was 21-6 going into the final quarter of the game.

Almost immediately after the start of the fourth quarter, Joshua Gribble scored a touchdown for the Eagles. Specifically, Gribble scored after 9 plays and 59 yards in a total of 3 minutes and 52 seconds. Brandon Ward and Tryell Jr. scored back-to-back touchdowns for Clarkson High School but yet another failed two-point conversion left North Football two possessions behind the Eagles. An easy touchdown by Michael Balogh sealed the victory for St. Eds with a final score of 35 – 18.

The player of the game is awarded to a group of players; this time it is the St. Edward offensive line. The defensive line for North Clarkson High School was large and skillful but the offensive line collectively as a unit did its job allowing St. Eds to run for 264 yards in the game.

Next week, Clarkson High School will travel back to take on the St. Ignatius Wildcats while St. Edward will travel to Cincinnati in a contest against Archbishop Moeller.
