PARMA, OH –  It was a dominant defensive effort by the St. Ed’s Eagles tonight in a 27-7 Regional Championship victory over Mentor .  They turned the Cardinals over multiple times and kept the momentum with the Eagles all night.  This Eagle defense continues to set the tone along with an incredible O-Line that opens up holes for Brandon White on the other side of the ball.

White, ran for over 178 yards tonight with 3 touchdowns on his way to a record setting 3,987 career rushing yards as an Eagle.  Pretty incredible considering he missed most of his junior year.  This again shows that when the Eagles run the ball well and set the tempo on defense, they are nearly impossible to be beat.

The lone bright spot on offense for the Cardinals was standout wideout Justen Hodge who hauled in 6 catches for 109 yards and also rushed for 41 yards on 9 carries.  Without Farley and Burns in the lineup, Hodge was the lone Cardinal threat.

St. Ed’s faced a fourth and 1 from their own 29 on the games opening drive, they went for it and got it with a 3-yard dive by White. From there, they tacked away a few more first downs, deeper into Cardinal territory as they stuck with the run game and piled up the yards, eventually reaching a first and ten from the 13-yard line.

White took it in from there to hand the Eagles a quick 7-0 lead with 5:31 to play in the first.  The drive was 12 plays in which White accounted for 9 of them as they went 80 yards in 6 minutes and 29 seconds. The first quarter ended with the Eagles still up 7-0 after consecutive three and outs from the Cardinals.

The Eagles started the second quarter with the ball near their 30, following another Cardinal punt. The faced another fourth down and decided to go for it again.  A 10-yard conversion by Langston Lucas kept it going and moved the ball down to the Cardinal 32-yard line. It was for not however as a personal foul took them out of range and they were eventually forced to punt.

The Eagles got the ball back late in the second after forcing yet another Cardinal three and punt. They once again road their bell cow White down the field to pile up yards and threaten to score. They eventually capped off the two minute drive with a 19-yard touchdown from White to take a 14-0 lead into the half, after Landon Lehmer capped off the masterful defensive first half with an interception.

With a scoreless third quarter to follow, things began to heat up and get a little crazy in the fourth as the Cardinals scored on the quarters opening play with a 3-yard run to cut the lead to 14-7 and keep things interesting. The Eagles wasted little time answering with a scoring drive that featured a 38-yard toss to Hackelman. A few plays later White went in for his third touchdown of the night, extending the lead to 20-7 with 7:23 to play.

From there, a Makhi Boone pick six put things away for good as the Eagles went on to win 27-7 after another Boone interception.
