St. Ed’s Defeats Walsh Jesuit As Flannery Family Make’s History

It was a special night as for the first time ever, St. Ed’s head coach Eric Flannery coached against his son Sean Flannery of Walsh Jesuit.  This combined with the 2025 St. Ed’s Athletic Hall of Fame Class being inducted last night and honored at halftime tonight, gave this game all the special kind of feels that make high school athletics so incredible.  In the end, it was St. Ed’s pulling out the 71-55 win over the Warriors. It was a clean sweep for the Eagles tonight as both their freshman and JV teams won as well.

When Anthony Spain hit a 3 pointer for the Warriors to start the game, it was instantly clear that they were not backing down and up for the challenge that awaited them.  The Eagles rebounded with 7 straight points on the legs of three balls from Bryan Vlosich and JT Kelsheimer.  The Eagles were just getting started from long range.  A few moments later it was Ian Murray using a rubber rim to extend the Eagle lead to 10-5.

After the Warriors cut into the lead a bit, it was another left handed nothing but net three from Kelsheimer to extend the lead to 13-7.  Both teams went back and forth for a bit before another Eagle three ball, this time from Carson Link gave the Eagles a 18-11 advantage.  After four straight points from the Warriors made it interesting at 18-14, the Eagles drained a three at the tail end of the quarter from Anthony Noar to pull ahead 21-15 after one quarter of play.  6 of the 10 Eagle first half three pointers came in the opening quarter.

The Eagles stayed red hot to extend the lead to 29-17 as they opened the quarter on a 8-2 run fueled by back to back three’s from the sharpshooter Bryan Vlosich.  They weren’t done yet as Kelsheimers third three pointer of the half made it 34-17, giving the Eagles their biggest lead of the night.  The Warriors battled back and cut the lead to 38-24 before another Eagle three, this time from Drew Yurcich made it 41-24.  The Warriors didn’t go away quietly however as Noah Freiry hit three ball moments before the halftime buzzer, to cut it to 41-27 Eagles at the break.

The Eagles hot outside shooting didn’t cool off in the second half as they went on for the 71-55 win.
