St. Ed’s High School in Lakewood captured their 49th State Dual Championship today with wins over Avon Lake 64-6, Massillon Perry 47-20 and a thrilling Championship Round over Dublin Coffman 39-29.  The championship being sealed on a Frankie Pieffer 12-4 Majority Decision over Michael Feeney to seal it.

The final round was an absolute battle as the action went back and forth the entire time.

The action got started at 215 with an Aiden Peterson pin over Mason Parrill to get the momentum going in the way of the Eagles.  Clayton Shipley of DC tied it up quickly with a 47 second pin of the Eagle heavyweight Assad and we were off to the races from there.

The Eagles battled back with a 34 second pin by Andrew Mlynarczyk before Nolan Haggerty got tech felled by All World Wrestler Loc Webber by a score of 26-7.  The Eagles were then gifted a win at 120 for Bauman as DC had no one able to compete.  This increased the Eagle lead to 18-11 before Conner Whitely was defeated narrowly at 126 by Tommy Wurster by 2-2 UTB decision.  3 big points DC badly needed, pulling them closer at 18-14.

From there, DC took their first lead of the night at 20-18 with a HUGE 3:14 pin fall by Blaze Van Gundy at 132.  The Eagles were unfazed however and began to take it into high gear and battle back like true champions due with 3 straights wins.  A massive 14 points came from a Cannon Driscoll tech fall, a Karson Brown 1 minute pin and a Jacob Kiehl pin.  Those 3 I just mentioned are in rare form right now and a threat to win big at state.  This handed the Eagles a commanding 32-20 lead as we approached the 157 weight class.

DC tried battling back with a slim 4-0 point win at 157 by Eli Esguerra and a pin win from Grayson Woodcock in 48 seconds over Kai Sloan.  This edged them back to just 3 points down at 32-29 with a few matches left.

It was then that the freshman Brendan Davies showed the heart and skill of a senior with a clutch 9-5 decision win over Bruce Palmer.  Massive praise to the freshman on that one as it bumped the lead back up to 35-29 with one match left as Pieffer went on to seal it.
