Normandy has a rising star on their hands by the name of Ziley Minich. This young lady just wrapped up her sophomore year and continues to impress me more and more every time I see her play. Minich plays with the skills of a college player and also the heart of a Lion. No matter the score, she plays like every single possession will decide the outcome of the game. She also has some of the best down court vision I have ever seen. She can also take you off the ball in a split second while breaking your ankles and scoring with a layup. She is that “dynamic”, an absolute STUD! A natural dribbler, driver, passer and scorer. The whole deal!
The hype behind Ziley was real coming into her sophomore year based on the following honors she put up her freshman year.
-All-District Honorable Mention
-All-Conference Co-Offensive POY
-All-Conference 1st Team
-Team Offensive MVP
-Scholar Athlete
Her commitment to the game and also her schoolwork is only a small measure of why she succeeds, but certainly plays a role! She wakes up Mon-Fri at 3:30a to train then does her school work to keep up her Honor Roll grades. She even volunteers as a basketball coach to K-6 graders. She also plays AAU for the SMAC Rebels ’27 for Dorian Rowell in the NE2K circuit. She stays busy but never shows fatigue as she has one of the strongest go go go engines of any athlete I have ever covered.
She is electric on the court, again, no matter the score as proven late against Magnificat this past Saturday night. She is the definition of playing to the whistle and deserves to be looked upon as a leader.
Ziley is routinely in the lead for PPG and Assists in the CWC. Imagine being at the top of both lists, it is tough to do but her style of play, it is a possibility. Again, I will say it, she plays with heart and vision, two of the biggest traits a young athlete can have.
In a Sophomore class dominated by names such as Oliva Dewey, Alana Pagan and Sidney Butera, it is easy for Minich to sometimes get lost in the shuffle, but I’m telling you right now, watch the young lady play once and you will never forget her!
The Kee On Sports All Sophomore team will come out later this week and you can take it to the bank, she will be on it!
Ziley actually is leading her conference in both points and assists along with like 4 other stats. She is one of the most exciting players you will watch anywhere!
