Serious Flaws Exposed In Loss To San Francisco 49ERS

The Browns have looked awful at times this season and tonight was no different.  Every loss has had the same issues and they don’t appear to be getting any better which is now a serious concern.  Those issues are as simple as this.

Baker has regressed

Baker looks lost out there and cannot handle any pressure.  He is not scrambling like last season and he is forcing passes.  He looks like a lost rookie and appears to have taken a gigantic step backwards.  He is not even selling the play action fake like he used to.

I understand Kevin Zeitler is gone, and they have consistently drafted busts at O-Line in the  Sashi Brown and also  John Dorsey drafts.  But they need to figure out something and quickly before Baker Mayfield gets killed. Baker has shown just how damn good he can be, now block for the guy!

No Composure early in games

Terrible penalties and turnovers continue to plague this team.  A sign of bad coaching and lack of composure.  They need leadership and they need it right now or else this may become a lost season.

Terrible playcalling

It is no secret we have one of the worst lines in the NFL.  Why would you run so many spread formations with an empty backfield?

Chubb was doing great tonight.  Leave him in the backfield every single down he has the wind to be in there.  If not, someone to block.

Empty backfields with a terrible line, simply do not work.  Are you wondering why Baker looks terrible this season, that right there is your biggest reason.

Freddie needs to stop calling empty backfields with a four or five receiver set in the red zone and espically inside the 20.  It isn’t working.

Injuries need to heal

Not sure how long it takes the hamstrings of two young bucks like Greedy Williams and Denzel Ward to heal?  But if not by next week a great quarterback like Russell Wilson will light them up like it is New Years Eve in Vegas.  Higgins better be ready by next week as well as Calloway is not the answer.

  1. The scheme stinks. They had a tight end trying to block Bosa.
The play calling has no rhythm. Baker needs plays to settle him down. They run that tight bunch formation versus spreading the defense and throwing quick 5-10 yard slants.
They are trying to hit homerun plays, that’s where Baker looks lost, play takes too long to develop with a C- at best O-line.
Penalties are not from composure of players, it’s not playing to team strengths. You can’t start the game with long developing plays when you know your line struggles. Players then start grabbing to hold blocks.
Bad choice in dressing Calloway this week.
    Just my humble opinion.

  2. Even though I went to sleep at halftime, with what I did see I whole-heartedly agree with you, Vince McKee.
