Olmsted Falls, Ohio – The Olmsted Falls Bulldogs hosted the Avon Eagles at Charles A Harding Memorial Stadium for a conference showdown. The Eagles went on to secure a 35-14 win over the Bulldogs on the road to remain undefeated at 6-0 midway through the regular season.
Olmsted Falls started off the game with the ball on their own 30-yard line. The Bulldogs had a promising drive on the ground from Jimmy Rosol and Owen Singleton but were ultimately halted short in enemy territory with a turnover on downs. The Avon Eagles started their opening drive on their 30–yard line. Similar tactics by the Eagles offense resulted in a long march down the field. Running back Cam Wendell scored a 7-yard rushing touchdown with 3:59 left in the first quarter to give the Eagles an early 7-0 lead on the Bulldogs. Olmsted Falls started their next drive on their 38-yard line. The Bulldogs made amazing progress to move into Eagle territory to end the first quarter.
Starting off the second quarter with a bang, the Bulldogs offense continued to drive deep into Eagles territory which resulted in a quarterback keeper by Jimmy Rosol on a 9-yard rush to even the score at 7-7 with 11:53 remaining in the first half. Avon, feeling the pressure of a close game and the loudness from their opposing fans, had a miscommunication that resulted in a Nolan Good interception, giving the Bulldogs the ball back on their own 15-yard line. Fortunate enough for the Eagles, their defense held their ground and forced a Bulldogs punt to once again hold possession. Avon started their drive on their own 31-yard line and had some fireworks early on in the drive. Nolan Good threw fantastic pass after pass before ultimately connecting with Aiden Atkins for a 6-yard touchdown to give the Eagles a 14-7 lead with 5:01 left in the second quarter. The remainder of the first half was all defensive stands, the Eagles forced a punt, the Bulldogs forced a turnover on downs, and the Eagles held the Bulldogs to keep the first half score where it was, being down 14-7 going into the locker rooms at halftime.
The Eagles started the third quarter with the ball on their 35-yard line. Nolan Good picked up right where he left off and moved the offense down the field, this time connecting with Grant Barr for a 45-yard deep-strike to give the Eagles a 21-7 lead with 9:41 left in the third quarter. Olmsted Falls had a long first drive in the second half. The Bulldogs were about to punt, but the kicker got roughed on the kick, resulting in an extended drive. This extended drive was cut short and resulted in a Bulldogs punt. Avon took full advantage of this opportunity and went down the field, scoring a 12-yard rushing touchdown from Quiante’ Smith to give the Eagles a 28-7 lead with 1:28 remaining in the third quarter. Olmsted Falls retained the ball for the remainder of the third quarter.
Going into the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs kept the ball on the ground, but was halted short, resulting in yet another punt. Avon continued to chew the clock out early on in the fourth quarter, strategically moving down the field. Nolan Good threw his third touchdown pass to Alex Huguely for a 5-yard score, giving the Eagles a 35-7 lead with 7:42 remaining in the game. Olmsted Falls punted on their next drive, but their strong defensive line forced a fumble, giving the Bulldogs great field position to start their next drive on the Eagles’ 8-yard line. Determined to score, the Bulldogs punched in a rushing touchdown by running back Nate Hrabnicky to make the score 35-14 Avon with 1:29 remaining in the game. After receiving the kick, Avon decided to take a knee to end the game and secure a road conference victory. Olmsted Falls put up a great fight to start the game, but the Eagles took off in the second half and never looked back.
