In week one of the Division III, Region 10 OHSAA playoffs, the (3) Rocky River Pirates faced off against the (14) Toledo Rogers Rams.
From the first play of the game, the Pirates set an early tone — a dominating effort on the ground combined with a shut down defense proved themselves the better team almost immediately.
First Half
To begin the game, the Rocky River Pirates received the kickoff. Without hesitation, the ball was handed off directly to RB Tommy Bebie — who seemingly was not touched for a 62 yard touchdown. After an extra point and only 16 seconds taken off the clock, the Pirates gained an early 7-0 lead.
Pooching their next kickoff caught the Rams off guard, allowing the Pirates to pillage away Toledo’s first possession. In one play, Bebie was given the ball yet again – and again he was untouched for another touchdown. Two possessions, two plays and two touchdowns for the Pirates — 14-0.
In an attempt to come back in a hurry, Rams QB Jevon Hudspeth threw a costly interception to Braedon Spies. Spies, who caught the interception in one-handed acrobatic fashion, now led the Pirates offense at QB with one goal in mind – extending his team’s lead.
Driving deep into Rams territory, it was Bebie who came through yet again with a 10 yard touchdown — his third rushing score of the game. After a Mack Masaad extra point, the Pirates led 21-0 at the end of the first quarter.
After the Rams quickly punted, the Pirates needed only a few plays from the other Bebie Bro, Johnny, to score again. His three yard rush and subsequent extra point from Masaad made the score 28-0.
Another failed drive from the Rams set up another Pirates score. This time, T. Bebie rushed for a 44 yard touchdown — his fourth on the game and 20th on the season — the Rocky River High School single season record. Massad’s extra point made it 35-0.
Continuing the trend, a punt gave the ball right back to the Pirates. Though the Bebie Bro’s got it done with their legs most of the game to this point, it was Spies who rushed in a seven yard touchdown this drive — Massad’s extra point made it 42-0 at halftime.
Second Half
Thanks to a quick third and fourth quarter that went by almost without a score from either team (a garbage time touchdown was scored by the Rams with less than a min.), the domination ended at 42-6 in favor of the Pirates.
Continuing on in this year’s Division III, Region 10 playoffs, the Rocky River Pirates will face the winner of (6) Medina Buckeye vs. (11) Caledonia River Valley at home next week.
