Rocky River remained red hot by defeating North Olmsted 44-22 as they close out the regular season this week.  The Pirates were led by Ava Patti with 19 and Annika Mocho with 13.

Head Coach Jamey Pfahl spoke about how well his two Lady Pirates have played this year and why, “They do a great job playing together and having fun and you can tell that.  They are great friends off the court and that helps.”

One of the biggest things the Pirates did earlier this week against Fairview and then again today was play a solid press defense to create turnover and quick points.  Coach Pfahl touched on that as well, “We practice our press and press break daily, it is our bread and butter.”

Today in North Olmsted was youth night, and the 3rd grade girls basketball team was there to take in the action.  Coach Pfahl touched on the excitement of that was well, “I love to see young girls with basketballs in their hands and smiling as they are having fun.  The atmosphere was great, I just love it!”

For Pfahl, this has been his first season at the helm in River, and it has gone very well, he touched on that, “I love it, and the best part is yet to come with the conference tournament and state playoffs.  I’m so excited to coach them!”

The Pirates were also aided by 3 points from Lenore Wright, 5 from Natalie Swallow and 2 from Emmy Convery. The Eagles were paced with buckets from Katie Strong, Taylor Wenstrom, Elena Cardenas and Maddie O’Boyle throughout the night.

The Pirates used a commanding press to build a 14-5 lead after one by causing several Eagle turnovers.  The Pirates overcame 10 team fouls in the first half to lead 25-13 at halftime.  North Olmsted missed a golden chance to catch up as they only went 4 of 11 from the line in that half.  River extended the lead to 19 at 39-20 after 3 quarters and then held North Olmsted to only 2 points in the final frame for the 44-22 win.
