Julian Patti had a good night hitting some huge bombs to keep the Pirates on top tonight. Patti was 6 for 14 with 131 passing yards, 2 passing TD’s and a rushing TD that came off a one yard keeper. Patti would also finish the night with an interception and was sacked twice.
The Pirate trio of Massad, Wilson and DiSalvo helped cement the win for Rocky River. Massad carried the ball 7 times for 38 yards and a 29 yard reception as well as a TD. Zach Wilson finished the night with 7 carries for 46 yards. Last but certainly not least, Nick DiSalvo had 1 catch for 4 yards, 9 carries for 65 yards .
On the other side of the ball Westlake QB Sam Brucchieri went 6 for 12 for 38 yards, 1 TD, and 2 interceptions. Matthew Porcelli had 15 carries for 46yards .
The first quarter started out quick as Westlake took the opening kickoff and methodically took the ball down the field for a touchdown. That put the Demons up 7-0 early.
Not to be outplayed, Pirates QB Julian Patti would hit a 70 yard connection to a wide open over the middle to Rowan McDougal to knot it up at 7.
Westlake’s next possession would be 6 plays and stall out on the Pirate 38 yard line. Rocky River would finish out the quarter in good shape.
Rocky River couldn’t capitalize, however, they would have to settle for a 35 yard Mack Massad field goal to put the Pirates up 10-7.
Westlake was plagued by false starts totaling up 3 on the drive. Ultimately leading to a Demons punt out of bounds. The Pirates started their next drive with great field position on their own 45. River struck again on their next drive with a 4 yard touchdown pass from Patti to Mack Massad to put the Pirates up 17-7.
Westlake’s last drive for the half would stall out after an errant pass by Sam Brucchieri was picked off by Josh Mommers. The Pirates would take a knee to end the half.
The Second half started out with Rocky River in possession of the ball. The Pirates needed 9 plays to take the ball 48 yards to paydirt on a Patti pass to Stan Heuler for 4 yards putting the Pirates up 24-7.
The Pirates would not let up in the fourth quarter adding 2 more scores to their total. Westlake had the chance to capitalize on a kickoff that went out of bounds late in the 4th quarter. However, Brucchieri was picked off on a pass intended for Matthew Porcelli.
Next week the newly minted 4-4 Pirates host North Olmsted to take on the Eagles. While the 3-5 Westlake Demons will head to Fairview to take on the Warriors.
