ROCKY RIVER, OH – The Rocky River Pirates began their quest for a GLC title with a triumphant 52-6 home win over East Tech today. The Pirates were led by their senior captain Ava Patti with 18 points.  Patti is once again expected to be one of the best players in the area, and a true leader for the Pirates.

Big things are also expected of Olivia Dewey this season, as just this past Monday I named her one of my top freshmen in the area.  She showed why right away on the Pirates first possession of the game that came the way of a turnover, as Dewey banked home a three pointer in her very first shot as a Pirate.  Points off of a turnover would become a thing all night for Rocky River as this was just the start of things to come including five second violations caused by constant pressure.

The Dewey triple lit the fuse for a 24-0 first quarter by the Pirates in which Patti went off for 10 points, with most of the buckets coming from fast breaks caused by turnovers.  Also scoring in the first quarter was Lenore Wright (4), Bridget Carlin (2) and Nora Bruder (3) amongst others. The Bruder three-point bucket was also the first Pirate points from the exciting freshmen as her three pointer is only a sample of things to come.

The East Tech Scarabs started the second quarter red hot as they narrowed the Pirate lead to 26-4 within the first 35 seconds of second quarter action with a beautiful three pointer and foul shot. The Pirates wouldn’t let it get any closer as Mackenzie Russell scored five straight points for the Pirates and Rocky River went on a 13-0 run to finish the quarter.  This run gave the Pirates a 39-4 halftime lead.  They went on to cruise from there for the 52-6 victory.  However, the Scarabs did fight to the end, scoring the games final bucket! Good luck to both teams this season.
