Rocky River- The Rocky River Pirates (4-1) dominate the Olmsted Falls Bulldogs (2-1) 18-4 on Senior Night.

The Pirates set sail from the 1st quarter on and never looked back scoring nine goals each in the 1st and 2nd half. Olmsted Falls was struggling to gain possession for offensive opportunities all night. Junior Kayley Schmucki of the Bulldogs had had two goals and one assist on the night but that’s all Olmsted Falls could get going offensively. Rocky River would come away with the 18-4 victory. I had a chance to catch up with Rocky River Pirates Girls Lacrosse Head Coach Erin Mitchell about the win. “I think it was a really good team win. It was our Senior Night so really getting our seniors a lot of opportunities and letting them enjoy their night. I think we had a lot of different points from a lot of different people, had good energy and vibes on a home day so, we loved it.” Mitchell said

Rocky River honored eight Seniors this year. One of those Seniors being Grace DeWitt who had three goals and three assists on the night. Her younger sister Sophomore Clara DeWitt also joined in on the scoring frenzy matching her sister with three goals of her own with two assists. I asked Coach Mitchell about the special connection between the sisters and what they bring to the table for her team. Coach Mitchell continued by saying “the DeWitt sisters, they are a special place in my heart. I coached them in club, so I’ve known them for years. I just think the way that they work off each other is really creative. In practice they challenge each other. They love when they are on the same team, but they also love when they are going one on one against each other. I think the bond and chemistry they have is something special.”

Defensively the Pirates only gave up four goals on the night. I concluded my conversation with Coach Mitchell about her star goalie, Senior Claudia Walsh. “Claudia is amazing, she is our brick wall back there. Claudia is kind of the glue to our team. She really holds us together especially in bigger and more intense games. She keeps her composure and is someone that I’m confident with back there.” Coach Mitchell said

The Olmsted Falls Bulldogs will continue their road trip with a stop in Brunswick, to take on the Brunswick Blue Devils Thursday April 3rd at 7 PM before they head back home next week to face off against the Wooster Generals on Monday April 7th at 7 PM. As for the Rocky River Pirates, they will continue their home stand against the Avon Eagles with a Girls/Boys Double Header, Thursday April 3rd.  After that, they will be heading down South. Not to Florida where all Ohioans wish the weather would be like right now but to our state capital, Columbus. The Pirates will go toe to toe with the Bishop Watterson Eagles on Saturday April 5th at 12:30 PM.
