ROCKY RIVER, OH – The Lady Pirates of Rocky River were dominant in their victory over the North Olmsted Eagles on Wednesday night. Seniors Ava Patti and Mackenzie Russell led the way for Rocky River. Both girls dropped 11 points on the night.

The game was controlled by Rocky River from the opening tip. North Olmsted was forced into taking two quick timeouts following a 10-0 start from the Pirates. Rocky River finished off the first period with a 15-3 lead. The best part of the quarter was that all 7 of their field goals came off assists.

Rocky River Head Coach Jamey Pfahl spoke on the great start after the game, “We’ve been preaching team basketball, moving the ball, attention to detail both offensively and defensively. I just loved our ball movement today and how we were sharing the ball.”

The Pirates continued their dominant play into the 2nd quarter. Rebounding was a key attribute to victory for Rocky River. They outrebounded North Olmsted 42-21. Coach Pfahl mentioned that rebounding is a part of the team’s identity, “We’ve outrebounded every team we’ve played this year. It’s kind of our identity. We decided we are going to be a great offensive and defensive rebounding team and it showed again tonight.”

Heading into the break, Rocky River held a 29-7 lead over the Eagles. Mackenzie Russell was leading the way offensively with 9 points.

After struggling to find her shot in the first half, Ava Patti got her scoring going in the 3rd quarter. Despite the struggles early, she still finished the game with 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists.

After the game, Ava spoke on if she expects this type of play from herself, “Yeah. Today was not my best scoring day. At first, I wasn’t making any shots, so I knew I had to get involved in other ways. So that’s where my assists and rebounds came from. Just trying to get the team going if I can’t get myself going.”

In the 3rd quarter, Patti dropped 5 points which was more than her first half total. With one quarter remaining, the Pirates were dominating the Eagles 38-11.

The final frame showed each team’s second unit getting a bulk of playing time. Both teams continued to fight hard and hustle after every loose ball. At the final buzzer, the Pirates came out on top 54-17.
