Rocky River Advances With 15-2 Victory Over Revere

After a close start, the Rocky River Pirates cruised to a 15-2 victory over Revere to advance to the next round of the postseason.  The Lady Pirates were led by a stellar defensive effort and dominant offense that saw hat tricks from Olivia Konopka, Kaitlyn Bryne and Grace Dewitt.  Byrne led all scorers with 4 goals while Daisy Thompson and Alexis Tisler had 2 each.

Revere got an early look to score on a free position attempt, a nice save by Arcadia Hoover kept it scoreless. Moments later, Grace Dewitt cashed in a free position for the Pirates to give them the 1-0 early lead. After another Hoover save kept it 1-0, the Pirates ran a beautiful play over the middle that set up Byrne for a shot dead on center, but it sailed just a bit high.

A Yellow Card to Dewitt of the Pirates gave the Minutemen a chance to play at a player advantage. It wouldn’t matter though because the Pirates knew how to defend and then strike, doing that with a tremendous goal by Olivia Konopka to extend the lead to 2-0. Seconds later it was Kaitlyn Byrne scoring as well, and in the blink of an eye, it was 3-0 Rocky River despite playing a man behind.

Hoover remained on fire as she stopped multiple attempts by the Minutemen to score, keeping the lead at 3-0, nearly 10 minutes into the action.

Late in the first half, with River up 4-1, the Minutemen got a goal by Kira Perez to cut into the lead at 4-2.  Alexis Tisler had the receipt waiting however, with a goal to bump it back up to 5-2 River with 3 minutes left. Seconds later another Hoover save kept it at a 3 goal lead.  Goals by Dewitt and Daisy Thompson made it 7-2 Rocky River at the half.

Tisler started off the second half with her second goal of the night to increase the lead to 8-2 Pirates. Following a goal by Konopka that made it 9-2, Revere took a timeout but it didn’t help as the Pirates came out of the timeout with more goals by Daisy Thompson and Kaitlyn Byrne to make it 11-2. Moments after that, a Byrne had trick goal put the Minutemen away for good at 12-2.

A Dewitt Hat Trick goal was followed by the fourth goal of the night from Kaitlyn Byrne to add a bit of icing to the cake, as the Pirates upped the lead to 14-2.  Seconds later, a nasty hit incurred a yellow card for Revere as frustrations began to mount for the Minutemen. Konopaka added her Hat Trick into the mix as well, as the game closed out 15-2.
