To play River Basketball, you must be relentless, and Libby Lang defines that very word! She averages nearly a double double as she is one of the last true, “Big Men” in the local game. At 11.2pts 9.3reb 2.0ast 1.3blks per game, there isn’t much she doesn’t do to anchor the front court.
The 10th grade class around Northeast Ohio for women’s basketball is perhaps the strongest it has ever been. It is loaded with Pagan from Avon, Bruder, Dewey and Lang from River, along with Butera from Strongsville, Sophie Spade from Padua, Elle Lakios from Magnificat, Booke Schroader from North Ridgeville, Grace Largent and Emma Schaefer from Olmsted Falls just to name a few of many. But when it comes to the CWC, Lang continues to shine.
Lang moves the ball every time she touches it, either to an open teammate or towards the basket to score. She has every chance to win back to back CWC Player of the Year Awards coming up the next two seasons if she continues to grow her game. Many times Lang has been that calm and stabilizing force out there to keep things going during tough times. River is so team orientated that they don’t have solo stars, they succeed as a team, but Lang is one of those players that just can’t help but stand out.
I spoke with River head coach Jamey Pfahl about what makes Lang stand out, “Libby is one of the most selfless players that I have ever coached. The ball doesn’t stick when she gets it, she is always looking for an open teammate to keep the offense flowing. There are times when we tell her to demand the ball and go to work, but she is always looking to make the correct basketball play! That’s why I love coaching her, that’s why she’s a special player and her teammates love her!”
I couldn’t agree more with coach Pfahl, she truly is a team player! Congrats to Libby and good luck to her and her teammates this postseason.
