Richmond Heights holds off Cleveland Heights, 64-58, in NEO Youth Elite nightcap

Garfield Heights, Ohio – Richmond Heights led wire-to-wire in a 64-58 victory Thursday night in the nightcap of the NEO Youth Elite Christmas Classic.

The Spartans jumped out to a 9-0 lead, and Josiah Harris had six points during the run. They would end the first quarter up 26-11.

However, Cleveland Heights would not go down without a fight.

Despite being down by as much as 15, the Tigers battled back. Dushawn Hill, Rayvelle Duncan, and Hosea Steele got big buckets to keep Heights in contention.

However, Richmond Heights would hit buckets of their own, thanks to Josiah Harris, DeErick Barber, and Jaiden Cox-Holloway. Whenever it seemed that Cleveland Heights would make a run, the Spartans were there to counter.

At the end of the third quarter, Richmond Heights held the lead, 56-46.

The Tigers put together a couple of buckets to start the fourth, and their deficit decreased to 56-51.

Heights would have cut further into their deficit, but despite plenty of good looks, the rims were unkind to the Tigers, as key shots rattled out.

Nevertheless, Cleveland Heights stayed the course, and still managed to cut their deficit to 60-58 with 1:07 left.

Richmond Heights split a pair of free throws, and the Tigers got the ball with a chance to tie the game.

However, Dorian Jones came up with a key steal, and Cleveland Heights had to foul.

Josiah Harris made both free throws, and Maiden split a pair, and Richmond Heights held on to win.

Senior forward and West Virginia commit Josiah Harris had 20 points for Richmond Heights. Senior forward London Maiden had 18 points and nine boards, and freshman guard Dorian Jones had 13 as well.

Richmond Heights improves to 5-2. They host St. Vincent-St. Mary’s Tuesday evening.

Cleveland Heights was paced by sophomore forward Hosea Steele. Steele had 16 points and 11 rebounds. Senior guard Dushawn Hill had 14 points.

Cleveland Heights drops to 3-3. They take on Menlo-Atherton in Arizona next Monday.
