Norton, Ohio – The Richmond Heights Spartans captured their fourth consecutive district title with an 82-62 win over Cornerstone Christian Friday evening.
Richmond Heights scored the first points of the game, thanks to a Jaiden Cox-Holloway layup. He added a three, and a London Maiden layup helped the Spartans jump to a 7-2 lead.
Baskets from Carter Armstrong and Quinn Kwasniak helped cut the Patriot deficit to 9-7. Richmond Heights responded behind the efforts of Josiah Harris, who had 12 first quarter points in his second game back from injury.
That and a frenetic pace led the Spartans to a 27-14 lead at the end of one.
The Spartans led 39-27 at the halftime break, as Cornerstone Christian kept pace with Richmond Heights throughout the second quarter. Efforts by BK Kwasniak and DJ Miles helped keep the Patriots in the game, as each had four points in the quarter.
In the third quarter, Richmond Heights padded their lead, thanks to the efforts of freshman Dorian Jones. Jones had 12 in the quarter, and an air-tight defense helped the Spartans out to a 64-42 lead at the end of three.
Cornerstone Christian looked to cut into their large deficit in the second half, but struggled from the floor down the stretch.
In the fourth quarter, Richmond Heights maintained their lead and held on to secure another district title.
Richmond Heights (21-4) will take on Margaretta in Canton on Tuesday evening in a regional semifinal.
Senior forward and West Virginia commit Josiah Harris scored 22 points to lead the Spartans. Freshman Dorian Jones had 18, followed by 14 from London Maiden. Senior Jaiden Cox-Holloway had 12.
Cornerstone Christian finished its season at 24-2. Freshmen Quinn Kwasniak and Carter Armstrong each had 17 to pace the Patriots. Junior D.J. Niles added 16, and senior BK Kwasniak had ten.
