Rhodes defeats Glenville, 66-58 in Senate League Lake Division championship

Cleveland, Ohio – Rhodes captured the Senate City Championship (Lake Division) with a 66-58 win over Glenville at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse Wednesday afternoon.

This game was a rematch of the 2022 City Championship, won by Glenville, 57-54. It was also the third matchup of the season between the two teams, with Rhodes winning an overtime thriller over Glenville, 86-78, on December 16th. Glenville returned the favor with a 78-77 win over the Rams on January 20th.

Rhodes led 13-6 after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Rams’ lead was 23-19 before they went on a 7-2 run to close the half to up their lead to 30-21 at the half.

The Rams would increase their lead to 46-29 in the third quarter thanks to the efforts of Antwan Reynolds and Kenyon Giles. They each had eight points in the stanza. Reynolds had a pair of triples, and Giles was a huge asset on the defensive end.

Glenville would chip away at their deficit with a 9-2 run in the same quarter. Damarion Witten had eight points of his own, including a two-hand jam off of a steal. The score was 48-38 after three.

Jakobi Laster also had a big second half for Glenville. He had nine points in the fourth, as the Tarblooders got to within six. However, they could get no closer, as Rhodes (despite just two field goals) iced the game at the stripe, going 11 for 12.

Junior guard Antwan Reynolds had 24 points to lead the Rams. Fellow classmate Kenyon Giles had 19, followed by senior Demetrius Jones, who had ten.

Glenville (14-7) travels to Mentor on Saturday, February 18th to conclude the regular season. The Tarblooders were led by senior forward Jakobi Laster, who had 24 points. Junior forward Damarion Witten had 17, and senior guard Domaryean Oliver had 11.

Rhodes (13-6) travels to Gilmour Academy on Monday, February 13th for a non-conference contest.
