Richfield, Ohio – Thanks to a game-winning goal from sophomore Sam Nations with 36 seconds left, Revere defeated Wooster, 11-10, in the OHSAA Division II, Region 5 quarterfinals Thursday evening.
The two teams faced off on April 10th in similar weather conditions. Wooster won that matchup, 11-10.
The Generals got the scoring started when Carolyn Greene found the back of the net with 8:42 left in the first quarter. Kylie Timko added a pair of goals to increase the lead to 3-0 four minutes later. Jaycee Hackett drew contact and scored with 1:50 left to increase the Lady General lead to 4-0. Bentley Huffman broke the shutout 27 seconds later, drawing Revere to within 4-1 at the end of the first.
A Lola Downing goal 30 seconds in cut the Wooster lead to 4-2. A pair of Jaycee Hackett goals pushed the Wooster lead to 6-2 midway through the second quarter. Revere ended the half scoring three consecutive goals to cut their deficit to 6-5 at the half. Taylor Catlett scored her first goal with 5:39 left in the second, and Sam Nations her first with 1:44 left in the stanza. Catlett added one more goal with 52 seconds left for the final first half margin.
The Minutemen knotted the score thanks to a goal from Kylie Opal off an assist from Kira Perez less than a minute into the third quarter. Catlett would score her second goal less than a minute later, giving Revere their first lead of the game at 7-6.
Wooster responded when Carolyn Greene scored for the second time at the 8:27 mark of the stanza. Bentley Huffman added a goal to give Revere the lead, 8-7, midway through the third quarter. Greene added her third goal with 3:35 left in the third, knotting the score.
But Greene wasn’t done, finding the back of the net for the fourth time, giving Wooster the lead, 9-8. Jaycee Hackett added her fourth goal of the game with 6:28 left, increasing the lead to 10-8.
The Minutemen were not done yet, as Bentley Huffman cut their deficit to 10-9 less than 30 seconds later. Sam Nations later knotted the score up with three minutes to play. She would find the back of the net once again with 36 seconds left, giving Revere the lead, 11-10. The Minutemen won the ensuing faceoff and burnt off the remaining time to hang on for the victory.
Junior Taylor Catlett, junior Bentley Huffman, and sophomore Sam Nations each scored three goals for the Minutemen. Wooster had four goals each from junior Carolyn Green and sophomore Jaycee Hackett. Senior Kylie Timko added a pair of goals.
Revere advances to the regional semifinals where they will host Bay on Thursday, May 28th. The Rockets defeated Copley, 13-12.
