Stow, Ohio – Four Minutemen scored in double figures, led by junior guard Jimmy Salamone’s 21 points, propelling #2 seed Revere to a 73-59 victory over #3 seed Streetsboro in a Stow District semifinal Thursday night.
The Rockets got off to a fast start with a layup by sophomore guard Zamar Harris. They would later add back-to-back triples and take a 12-6 lead early in the first quarter.
But the Minutemen would start to warm up.
Trailing 15-9 late in the first quarter, the Minutemen would rattle off a 26-2 run spanning the first and second quarters, thanks to major contributions from Andrew Rinn, the aforementioned Salamone, Grant Schlerer, and Hunter Drenth, plus a suffocating defense that forced several turnovers, to take a 35-17 lead with 3:23 left before halftime.
The Rockets, champions of the PTC Metro Division, were led by sophomore forward Devin Reese’s 20 points, trimmed the lead to 11 in the third quarter, but could get no closer. In fact, Revere would stretch their lead to as much as 22 in the second half before the final whistle.
“Streetsboro has a great team and they’re very scrappy and physical. They knocked down some big shots. I’m glad our guys knocked down shots of their own and stepped it up.” said Revere head coach Dean Rahas.
Revere improves to 21-3 and advances to the Stow District championship game against St. Vincent-St. Mary’s High School.
“We came out and made shots and moved the ball well. But once Revere started to get some shots to go down, they moved into their press. I thought we did a better job in the second half of breaking the press and getting out of it, but their shot-making ability by the rim was fantastic.” said Streetsboro head coach Nick Marcini. “That’s a really good basketball team.
Streetsboro ends their season at 17-7.
