Since it’s inception, the AEW World Championship has been held and defended with honor and prestige, and the strong list of champions to hold the strap is perhaps one of the biggest reasons for the company’s success. Almost every AEW World Champion has fit the bill, they could go in the ring, on the microphone, sell tickets and PPV Buys. At times, some of them, have looked unbeatable. Also, you can count on the World Championship match being one of the best of the night, time and time again.
For example, the World Championship matches between Kenny Omega vs Hangman Page, CM Punk vs Hangman Page and MJF vs Darby Allin, Jack Perry and Sammy Guevara have been some of the best matches in company history.
Time and time again, the World Championship match has been counted on to be the best match of the night, and it has, over and over again! With the sole exception of Moxley’s squash match to unify the belt with CM Punk in Cleveland, or the disastrous “Exploding Death Match” with Omega and Moxley, they have delivered.
So, the question begs to be asked, as we approach the 5-year anniversary of AEW Dynamite in the fall, who has been the best World Champion?
Let’s have some fun and list them from Worst to Best. These rankings are unbiased and will be created on the legacy of their championship run, impact as champion, days as champion as totaled from numerous reigns in the case of CM Punk and Moxley who had multiple runs with the belt.
Enjoy the rankings starting on page two.
Which means the title fight at ALL IN will be swerves first big defence of his title at a PPV then…
