Michigan ahead of Michigan State:
The college football playoff committee needs to be seriously reevaluated. First of all, how do you rank Michigan over Michigan State. Michigan State beat Michigan just a couple weeks ago and they both have one loss. It is simple math, two one loss teams and one has a win over the other and therefore should be ranked ahead of them. It would be different if they played early on in the year and Michigan had gotten a lot better but that is not the case.
Ohio State ahead of Cincinnati:
I do not have as big of a problem with this as the committee used the eye test here and saw that OSU has been playing good as of late, but Cincinnati has a better resume. They have a win over the number 8 team in the country Notre Dame while OSU currently does not have a win over a ranked team. OSU is coming off a dominate win over Purdue but struggled to beat a bad team in Nebraska (the week before) as they only won 26-17. I think that Cincinnati should be ranked ahead of OSU.
Expand the playoff:
As I think most can agree the playoff needs to be expanded. How can you call it a playoff and have 2 rounds with 4 teams? There has been talks about a 12-team playoff and I think that is the perfect number of teams. A 16-team bracket would take away meaning in some games and there would be no award for finishing in the top 4.
With a 12-team playoff 4 teams get a bye. A 16-team playoff would also take away the meaning of late season games. For example, if you have two teams playing in a conference championship and we know both are going to get in, the game would be meaningless with a 16-team playoff as winning doesn’t get you a chance at a top 4 finish and bye.
The committee needs more members:
It is unfair that only 13 people decide the fate of these teams. Most of them are athletic directors which I think is unfair. They need to do the best they can to eliminate bias. It is not fair to have an athletic director when their school could be in contention for a playoff spot. I think analyst of the sport should be members. They follow it the closet and know what they are talking about. They could be the best analysts from different networks that cover college football.
College football would benefit greatly if they expanded the playoff and fixed the committee. A longer playoff means more money for the NCAA and TV networks which we know they love.
