The Perry Pirates dismantle Lutheran West by a score of 41-14 on a rainy night. Perry ran away with the game in the first half then held the Longhorns to 14 in the second. They scored 13 points in the first three minutes and one second of the first quarter. By halftime it was already 41-0. Lutheran West scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter but it wasn’t enough. Perry’s offense was running on all cylinder’s as they scored 41 unanswered points as well as their defense shutting out the Longhorns until the final quarter.
Perry spread the ball out by passing and rushing. Running back Carter Hopkins finished the game with 90 yards, a long of 57, and a touchdown. Dare’On Howard also had 64 yards, with a long of 41, and a touchdown. Kam Austin also scored a running touchdown. The Pirates quarterback, Walter Moses threw for 151 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for 19. His primary targets at three attempts each were the Sivon brothers, Luke and Chase. Luke had 72 yards with a long of 67 and a touchdown while Chase had 20 yards with a long of 17. Other receivers included Trent Taylor with 19 yards and a touchdown, Carter Hopkins with 35 yards, Vince Tomasic with 22, and Brody Krantz with 10. Chris Bezzeg led Perry’s defense with 7 tackles 4 of them being a solo tackle. Michael Niedzwiecki, Brody Petruccelli, Xavier Jackson, Carter Hopkins, and Nick Harris also put in tackles for the Pirates defense.
The Longhorns were led by a good night from Jace Palmer and J’Leon Isom. Palmer found his rhythm in this game throwing for 52 yards and rushing for 10. Isom had 67 yards rushing, a long of 17, and a touchdown. Cortlon Campbell also pitched in 15 yards for the running game. De’Von McDougle scored the other touchdown for the Longhorns. West’s recievers were targeted a lot this game fishing with a total of 23 attempts and 12 completions. De’Von McDougle had the highest receiving yards with 21 closely followed by J’Leon Isom. The Longhorns defense had their hands full with this Perry offense. Denver Scott and J’Leon Isom led them with 6 tackles each. Mykel Robinson Jr., Winner Divison, Cortlon Campbell, and Carlos Hall were key pieces for the defense. De’Von McDougle also had an interception.
Lutheran West faces the 4-1 Hawken Hawks next week on the road. Perry looks to get their fourth win in a row next week on the road against Orange.
