The Valley Forge Patriots hit the road as they take on the Amherst Steele Comets in a non-conference showdown.
The Comets look to build from a 2020 postseason appearance where they lost to North Royalton Bears in the first round. The Patriots are looking to notch their first win of the season as they also took a bow out of last year’s playoffs in the first round versus The Oregon Clay Eagles (OH).
The Patriots were the first to score as running back Kentrell Marks scored on a 1-yard run after a fumble by the comets in the first half in Valley Forge territory. Marks found pay dirt again in the second quarter with another short-yard TD run, making the score 14-0 Valley Forge.
Late in the 2nd quarter, The Comets were looking to find the end zone, but a failed third-down conversation, the Comets had to settle for a field goal making the score 14-3 in favor of the visiting Patriots.
After leaving the game late in the second quarter after being shaken up, Kentrell Marks came back int the beginning of the second half and ran for a 57-yard touchdown to make the score 20-3 Patriots. The Comets had no answer for the Patriots defensively as the duo of Kentrell Marks and Eddie Starks dominated on the ground.
Anthony Jankowski took it to the house for 25 yards in the third quarter, increasing Valley Forge’s lead 27-3. Eddie Starks scored his first TD of the night on a 14-yard touchdown run as Valley View was pulling away from Amherst 34-3.
It was a tough night offensively for the Comets as they struggled to find the end zone all night until Nick Mazze punched it in with a 5 yard TD Run.
Valley Forge answered back with a 25-yard TD run by Eddie Starks, his second of the night to extend their lead 40-9 which was eventually the final score.
The Player Of The Game
The player of the game goes to Kentrell Marks of the Valley Forge Patriots. Marks dominated the ground with his touchdown run 1-yard, 1-yard, and the 57-yard touchdown run that took the wind out of the Comets sails. On the defensive side of the ball, Marks also recorded a sack.
His playmaking ability and patience while running gave the Comets fit as they struggled to get into the backfield. Marks is off to a hot start this season with three touchdowns in only the first game and could be on track to surpass his 1,481 yards and 22 touchdowns junior season.
Valley Forge will be on the road again next week as they face non-conference opponent North Ridgeville Rangers, who lost to North Olmsted 52-7 on week one.
The Comets also hit the road in non-conference action versus the 0-1 Riverside Beavers as they look to get their first win of the season.
