1-Who are the top returning varsity player(s) on your team (with grade/position/past All-GLC recognition, brief description etc.)
Steven Chaj will play one man as a junior in his third year on the golf team after lettering his first two years.
2-Thinking conference level and beyond, what player on your team would be considered the “spotlight” player for the media to watch and promote this season? Why? Briefly describe him/her and what sets them apart as a player.
Peyton Vacca – He is a freshman who has all the potential in the world. His first tournament at Rawiga was on 8/6/21. He shot a team best 84, and took 8th overall for the entire tournament in his first match ever as a freshman.
The lefty has great control of the direction of the golf ball, a short game that already has me referring to him as Phil, (in reference to the great Phil Milkelson who is also a lefty), and a great demeanor whether he is playing well or not.
For him to come in and place in the top ten with schools like River, Westlake, Bay, and Buckeye (12 total) was definitely a sign that he can be as good as he wants and should be a force for the next four years.
3- What are the keys to your team’s success this season?
We only have two returning players, so we need as much practice time as we can get. Experience and practice makes all the difference.
4- What is the biggest goal for the season and what is it about your team that will help them achieve it?
For everyone to improve throughout the year. If everyone learns, improves, and commits to working hard they should be set up next year with no seniors this year to make a good run in conference.
5-What will set this team apart from past teams?
Having a freshman come in with the talent Peyton has, as well as the personality to fit in and lead right off the bat is amazing.
6-What did last season teach your squad on how to overcome adversity? Last season was rough. We did not have a full team and struggled to win many matches. The kids stayed positive and this year it should pay off with a much more competitive team.
