Dear Class of 2021,
I sit here on June 9th, 11:35pm and cannot stop thinking about this past year’s Senior Class. Because of the format God blessed me with, I got to know so many of you, interview you, meet your families and watch you grow up over the past several years. I got to watch you graduate, go to prom and realize your dreams. My goodness am I a blessed man.
I remember sitting in my studio a year ago, holding back tears thinking about the 2020 class that had so much taken from them. And now, 365 days later, I cannot stop smiling thinking about this year’s group and what they got to experience.
I prayed so hard last summer, every single night for a miracle. I prayed that people would finally come to their senses and allow these student athletes to play.
All the stars aligned and then we finally got the “go” late August. I think the last time I felt that happy receiving news was December 9, 2012 when my wife told me she was pregnant with our oldest daughter Maggie and I cried.
I’ll never forget the first night of football season, it poured all day and all night. As games all over Ohio either got rained out or rain delayed, I couldn’t help but think, “I guess we can wait a little longer”. The abbreviated six-week regular season did nothing to diminish mine and others excitement.
My favorite moments had to be watching the passion of the Medina fan base as they made the postseason memorable with one upset after another.
The instant classic that was Avon vs Avon Lake for a shot at the Final Four in the State. The game would end on a walk off Field Goal by Nathan Vakos. Making it even more wild was the fact that he predicted it a few weeks earlier on my show.
I will never forget those student athletes on both teams that night. It was emotional to say the least and they were my favorites. Both sides. I’ll never forget those seniors.
Basketball season would prove to be every bit as memorable as I personally covered over 75 SWC girls basketball games. Watching the undefeated conference run of Olmsted Falls alone was magical.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a fan base like North Ridgeville in my life. How could you not get excited with their run? Such an underdog feel for a talented group of young women chasing the unthinkable.
Just one Hell of a year! Thank you Seniors, we loved covering you and will never forget you!
As for the class of 2022, well,,,,,,, opening night of Football is Friday August 20th. It happens to be my 10 Year Wedding Anniversary to my beautiful wife Emily. It looks as though dinner will either be really early or late that night. Let’s see what you got!
The coach’s expression is priceless! And it was well covered by you and your staff.
You have grown so much since your first sports reporting and your love of all sports shows deeply in how much you care for them. Keep up the good work Kee On Sports!
