Orange Survives Lutheran West 35-28 in OT

Orange escapes a close game against the Lutheran West Longhorns 35-28, finishing in overtime. On their first offensive play, Orange scored a 65 yard passing touchdown. After the Longhorns scored a touchdown of their own Orange ran it for a 79 yard touchdown. Orange led at half time but Lutheran West took the lead 28-21 late in the fourth quarter. With under a minute left in the game Orange responded with a touchdown of their own. They were going for two but a flag pushed them back and they settled for an extra point. The game eventually went into overtime and Orange were the first to score. Lutheran West had a chance to answer back but a dropped snap recovered by Orange sealed the game.

Orange running back Russell Tye led the offense with 291 yards rushing and three touchdowns. This included the 79 yard touchdown. Tye had 24 carries and an average of 12 yard per carry. Quarterback Jonah Frey had 143 yards passing and two touchdowns. This was on 17 attempts and five completions. His 65 yard passing touchdown was to wide receiver, Ely Robinson. Robinson finished the game with 97 yards a team high and also a touchdown. The defense was led by Ely Robinson with nine total tackles and eight solo tackles and Russell Tye with eight total tackles.

Lutheran West had an opportunity to make an interception when leading with only a few minutes left and win the game. They unfortunately feel short on the last play. The Longhorns offense was also led by running back J’Leon Isom. He had 39 carries for 216 yards and two touchdowns! Cortlon Campbell also had a good rushing game with 71 yards rushing and a touchdown. However, an injury in the second half hindered his play. Quarterback Jace Palmer had a solid game with 71 yards passing, a passing touchdown, 16 yards rushing, and a rushing touchdown. His primary receiver was J’Leon Isom with a team high 30 receiving yards, Cortlon Campbell with 19, and Michael Verhun with 15 yards. The Longhorn defense was led by a multitude of guys including Denver Scott, Carlos Hall, Mykel Robinson Jr., Cortlon Campbell, De’Von McDougle, J’Leon Isom, and Sam Justice all with four or more total tackles.

To finish out their season Orange travels to West Geauga next week and the Longhorns stay at home to face Harvey.
