Olmsted Falls used their Multi-Headed Running Attack to defeat Elyria 42 to 15!

Olmsted Falls Bulldogs vs Elyria Pioneers

1st quarter

Elyria received the ball for the opening drive at their own 26-yard line and they went right after Olmsted Falls, their first play was a 29-yard pass play from quarterback Desmond Whitfield to wideout Andrew Palos to advance to the Bulldogs side of the field. The Pioneers continued their march all the way to 22-yard line of the Bulldogs’; but the Pioneers ended up turning the ball over on downs when they were stuffed on a 4th and 2 run.

Olmsted Falls’ offense, pumped up by the defense’s grandstand, took the ball at their own 22-yard line and made their own impressive march up the field to score on their opening drive. The Bulldogs used a tandem of runs by Michael Candow, Clay Vormelker, & Rocco Conti;

Olmsted capped off their drive with a 2-yard Vormelker run. Olmsted Falls 7 Elyria 0.

The Pioneers started their second drive at their 34-yard line and this drive was just as impressive as their first drive, but this time they were able to reach pay dirt with a 67 yard pass from Whitfield to Palos. Olmsted Falls 7 Elyria 7.

 

 

2nd quarter

The Pioneers took the ball from their 38-yard line and went to the ground with their run game and moved the ball all the way to Bulldogs 21-yard line, but a couple of plays for losses put them further back than they wanted and on a 4th and 15 play they turned the ball over on downs once again.

Olmsted Falls decided that their bread & butter was the legs of their playmakers, and they moved the ball on the ground, capping off a great drive with a 3-yard touchdown run by back Luke Dieckman.

Olmsted Falls 14 Elyria 7. With 3:40 left in the half.

Elyria wanted to see if they could tie the game up before halftime. With the drive starting at their own 27-yard line, the Pioneers went to their own ground game, they pounded the ball in between the tackles to move the line of scrimmage to the Bulldogs 22-yard line. At the 2-yard line on 4th down and 5 seconds left in the half, Olmsted Falls’ defense once again did what they have dine all night, they stopped the Pioneers just short of scoring a touchdown.

End of the Half, Olmsted Falls 14 Elyria 7.

 

3rd quarter

Olmsted Falls started the second half with the ball at their 40-yard line and with 8 out of 9 plays being runs, the Bulldogs scored on a Conti 2 yard run up the middle. Olmsted Falls 22 Elyria 7 (2pt conversion good).

Elyria started their first drive of the second half on the Olmsted 40-yard line after a great kick off run of 31 yards. The Pioneers not wanting to let the score get away from them, looked to take advantage of this great field position. Unfortunately, on their first play from scrimmage, they turned the ball over on an interception on the Bulldogs 30-yard line.

The Bulldogs, after being gifted with a turnover, could not gain any significant yardage, and ended up punting the ball away at the 4:31 mark.

Elyria started their next drive on their own 37-yard line and looked to be able to move to ball up the field. After going to the air and getting two first downs to move the ball to the Bulldogs 30-yard line; the Pioneers were able to add to their score on a 30-yard run by Jasir Lucky. Olmsted Falls 22 Elyria 15 (2pt conversion good).

With 2 minutes left in the third quarter, Olmsted Falls started their drive on their 45-yard line. Looking at only 55 yards of field to go, the Bulldogs went back to handing the ball off to its multiple backs.

 

4th quarter

With the start of the 4th quarter and Olmsted Falls now with the ball on the Elyria 45-yard line, the Bulldogs surprised the crowd and Elyria with going for only their third pass of the game, which connect on a 45-yard touchdown score from quarterback Charlie Ciolek to wideout Gavin Moore.

Olmsted Falls 28 Elyria 15 (PAT no good).

The Pioneers looking to use the momentum from their last drive, started on their 21-yard line and after a few impressive passes and runs, the Pioneers committed their second interception of the half on the Bulldogs 35-yard line. With taking that momentum away from Elyria.

Olmsted Falls wanted to quickly put this game away and on three plays, including a 34-yard pass, the Bulldogs added to their score on a 18 yard run by back Vormelker.

Olmsted Falls 35 Elyria 15. Down by 20 points and 7:47 left in the game, Elyria desperately needed to score a touchdown quickly. But unfortunately, they could not muster anything and turned the ball over on downs at their 35-yard line.

With the game squarely in their hands and excellent field position, the Bulldogs went to ground & pound mode. Using up a considerable amount of clock time, Olmsted Falls scored again on a 2-yard run by back Michael Candow.
