North Ridgeville-The Olmsted Falls Bulldogs (12-4) get a dominant win over the North Ridgeville Rangers (7-9) 61-34 and go to 10-0 in SWC play.
The Bulldogs had a hot start, outscoring the Rangers 21-4 in the 1st quarter and never looked back. The Bulldogs had five three-pointers in the 1st half. Their defense was spectacular tonight. They forced the Rangers to turn the ball over eight times in the 1st quarter and the Rangers only scored 12 points in the 1st half. A similar page would follow in the 2nd half. The Bulldogs forced another nine turnovers in the 3rd quarter and continued to have great ball movement offensively.
Everyone contributed to a piece of the offensive pie. This is the 4th time this season the Bulldogs have scored over 60 points in a game. I had a chance to speak with Olmsted Falls Bulldogs Head Coach Jordan Eaton on the 61-34 win “We were pretty relentless on effort at practice yesterday. I was really happy with the way our kids responded and understood that was the sense of urgency we were looking for from an effort standpoint. Not that we haven’t been playing hard, but I think we can play a little bit harder and a little bit more consistently with maximum effort. Today we definitely did that, I was really proud of the team and it’s hard for high school kids to buy into that, but they are doing a great job with it.” Eaton said
I carried on by asking Coach Eaton about the display his team put on defensively. Eaton continued by saying “We have a group of long athletic kids who like to work hard, aren’t afraid to get on the floor, or play physical. We have done a great job defensively all year. I have been very happy with our defensive effort and execution all season.”
Sophomore Emma Schaefer led the Bulldogs with 14 points. I asked Coach Eaton about her performance tonight “Every day she gets better. She holds herself to a really high standard. I’m really proud she is working on her weaknesses, and she is turning into a great basketball player.” Eaton said. Another Sophomore for the Bulldogs Grace Largent had 10 points on the night. I continued by asking Eaton how Largent has been developing this season and her efforts tonight. “She gets a lot of offensive rebounds and plays well around the basket. Every game she gets more comfortable on offense. A few games ago she had a double-digit game and has had a couple since. It’s exciting to see our younger kids starting to figure out where and how they can have success.” Eaton said
Junior Jesse Simon finished off the scoring for the Bulldogs with 10 points as well. The only one that could get anything going offensively for the North Ridgeville Rangers was Junior Reyna Balderas. Balderas had 20 points and was cooking from long range, accounting for six three-pointers on the night.
The Olmsted Falls Bulldogs will head back home to continue SWC action against the Elyria Pioneers this Friday January 24th. The game will be played at 5:45 PM instead of a normal 7 PM start time because after the game, the Bulldogs will be heading to Erie, PA to take on the Cathedral Prep Ramblers, Saturday January 25th at 12 PM. As for the North Ridgeville Rangers, they will also be back in action for an SWC matchup on the road against the Avon Eagles this Saturday January 25th at 12:30 PM before returning home next week to take on the Avon Lake Shoregals January 29th.
