Olmsted Falls beat Avon Lake 49-24 behind the player of the game Trent Hrabnicky who had 11 touches for 149 yards and two touchdowns. Olmsted Falls’ offense was clicking on all cylinders all night long. They were able to run the ball with ease and complete timely passes. Their defense started off slow allowing Avon Lake to score multiple touchdowns in the first half. They came out in the second half and held Avon Lake to one touchdown.
Avon Lake’s offense started off the game on a good note scoring multiple touchdowns and moving the ball with ease in the first half. In the second half they couldn’t continue their offensive success. Their defense struggled for most of the night allowing Olmsted Falls to run the ball effectively. They allowed a couple of big plays early and couldn’t regroup the rest of the night.
On the first play of the game Alex Affolter completed a deep pass to put Avon Lake in Olmsted Falls territory. A couple of plays later Anthony Benedict ran untouched into the endzone for a 29-yard touchdown to give them the 7-0 lead. After a couple of run plays, Jimmy Rosol ran it in for a 58 yard quarterback keeper to tie the game at 7. Avon Lake responded with Affolter finding Derek McCrum for a 64 yard touchdown to retake the lead 14-7. Olmsted Falls drove down the field behind Owen Singleton and Derek Neckar ran it in for a 2 yard touchdown to tie the game at 14.
Avon Lake drove down the field with a healthy mix of runs and passes, but Olmsted Falls was able to hold them to a field goal to go up 17-14. A short kick set up Olmsted Falls with great field position. Rosol was pressured out of the pocket and before taking a sack he threw a pass off his back foot to Trent Hrabnicky who then avoided multiple defenders and reached over the goal line for a 49 yard touchdown to take the lead 21-17. Olmsted Falls held strong on defense to force the first punt of the game. Jimmy Rosol took another quarterback keeper for a 30 yard touchdown to go up 28-17. Olmsted Falls threw an interception to give Avon Lake the ball on the one yard line with eight seconds left in the half.
Olmsted Falls opened the third quarter with a couple of big plays to get into Avon Lake territory. Rosol found Hrabnicky for a 12 yard touchdown to go up 35-17. Avon Lake was forced to punt for the third time in their last four drives. Avon Lake came out on defense and held Olmsted Falls to their first punt of the game.
Olmsted Falls used a variety of runs to drive down the field, and Derek Neckar finished the drive with a 6 yard run to extend their lead 42-17. Affolter used his legs to drive Avon Lake down the field and he finished off the drive with a 9 yard passing touchdown to Aidan Stewart to cut the lead to 42-24. Olmsted Falls drove back down the field and responded with a 3 yard rushing touchdown to Logan Connelly to extend their lead to 49-24.
