Olmsted Falls Running Back Rocco Conti Wins Player of the Week 10

As a high school beat reporter, I haven’t had to buy a ticket to a high school sporting event in 7 plus years. But if I did, I would gladly fork over my last red cent to watch Rocco Conti play the game of football. It is never a night at “work” covering this young man play. In fact, one of these days, I’m taking the night off and sitting in the stands just to watch, he is that much fun! He does so many things well, runs the ball, catches the ball, returns kicks, long snaps, and just keeps coming back snap after snap!

Conti’s 7 touchdown, 217-yard performance against rival Berea-Midpark last Friday for the Bagley Cup will go down as the greatest single game had by a student athlete in the long rivalry. It was more than enough for him to win our Week 10 Jenny’s Old Fashioned Popcorn Player of the Week.

Earlier this season I wrote a piece on Conti and his teammates, and his head coach Tom DeLuca had this to share about coaching Conti, “Rocco Conti is one of those rare players that every coach loves to have. He is a very special athlete. He has a great combination of strength, speed, agility and football IQ. More importantly he has outstanding leadership skills.

Not only does he hold his teammates accountable but he holds himself accountable for his own mishaps or mistakes. On top of all of Rocco’s positive attributes to being a great athlete he is equally a great person! He does really well in the classroom and treats his peers with respect.”

Congrats to Rocco on the award, and his teammates on the 8-2 season. A job well done for a share of the SWC Championship. They begin the playoffs this weekend at home versus Valley Forge in what should be a great game between two fantastic running teams.
