Elyria, Ohio – The Wadsworth Grizzlies faced off against the Olmsted Falls Bulldogs for the District Championship on Friday night at Elyria Catholic High School. A huge second quarter paved the way for a 63-31 Bulldogs victory.
The start of this game was dominated by stifling defense. It was just a 2-2 game through the first three minutes of action. The first quarter was tight throughout, but 6 points from Danielle Cameron helped give the Bulldogs a 12-9 lead.
Cameron picked up right where she left off in the second quarter. She knocked down back-to-back threes to extend the Bulldogs lead to 9 points. Another three pointer from Jessica Wolanin capped off a 9-0 run. Brooke Baughman would finally end the scoring drought for the Grizzlies.
Olmsted Falls then immediately rattled off another big run, this time scoring 11 straight. They outscored Wadsworth 20-2 to start the second quarter to extend their lead to 32-11. Danielle Cameron finished off her great first half with a layup as time expired. Cameron led all scorers with 16 points at halftime. The Bulldogs ended the first half with a 37-17 lead.
Things continued to go the Bulldogs way in the third quarter. Jesse Simon would help them grow their lead even more. She knocked down 2 three-pointers and finished the quarter with 8 points. By the end of the third the Bulldogs lead had grown to 51-24.
After a close first quarter, this game was all Olmsted Falls. The Bulldogs would end up winning by a final score of 63-31 to claim the District Championship. Danielle Cameron starred in this one, finishing with 23 points. Jesse Simon also had a big game for the Bulldogs, scoring 17.
Bulldogs coach Jordan Eaton said after the game that “basketball at this time of the year, teams are going to play hard at the beginning of the game. The team that can play hard the longest usually comes out on top.” He believes that his teams big run was due to “trusting each other and using patience.”
