This Senior bunch for Olmsted Falls is truly a special group of young women. They finished SWC play last night with a 76-36 victory over Amherst, and will go down as one of the most successful classes in SWC history. In their 4 years, the Bulldogs only lost one game to an SWC opponent in regular season play, and that took a last second buzzer beater against Westlake in January of 2020. They never lost again in the regular season against a SWC foe.
Mia Kalich led all scorers with 20 points while Danielle Cameron had 19 and Alana Tighe had 13 points for the Bulldogs. Paige Kohler had 6, while Erin Birch had 5 and Jesse Simon scored 4. Avery Delisio put up 3, as did Cerovac and Wolanin to finish the scoring for Olmsted Falls.
The Comets were led by their dynamic Junior combination of Kristen Kelley with 13 and Kayla Ferancy with 11. Ferancy is a stud and just keeps getting better, this duo will continue to be one to watch during the playoffs. Jocelyn George stayed hot from long range with 6 more points. The Comets also got a three ball from Bradyn Silvasy and 3 total points from Natalie Pleban.
Both teams started out kind of slow with only 5 combined points as Olmsted Falls led 3-2, 3 plus minutes into the game after a Cameron three answered a George bucket. Alana Tighe hit a three to push it to 6-2 and lifted the lid on the rim. A Kelley basket cut into it at 6-4, however, this quarter belonged to the Bulldogs as they led 16-12 after one. Both teams had success from long range as the Comets got three balls from Kelley and Pleban while Kohler, Tighe, Cameron and Cerovac all hit from beyond the arc for the Bulldogs.
It was clear on the first possession of the second quarter, that this night belonged to Tighe as she lit it up again from long distance for her third triple of the game. Moments later after another Ferancy bucket for the Comets, it was time for Alanna Tighe to light the lamp, (yes, it’s a hockey term I know, but I was running out of cool things to say, ) one more time from long range to extend the lead to 22-14 as she was on fire!
It was then time for Kalich to take over as she found her way to the paint time and time again and made the Comets pay. She also joined the three point party as well with one from long range. This along with excellent full court defense by the Bulldogs helped them build a commanding 42-21 halftime lead. Ferancy did her best to keep the comets in it with 9 in the first half.
The Comets came out of the break red hot, and scored the first 5 points after a Kelley runner and a George three. The rally would last long however, as Olmsted Falls went on to score 10 of the next 15 points and run their lead out to 21 again at 52-31. 7 of those 10 Bulldogs points came from Cameron. The Bulldogs used the rest of the quarter to pull away for good and led 59-31.
The Fourth quarter was all Bulldogs as they outscored the Comets 17-5 to capture the 76-36 victory. Olmsted Falls host Gilmore tonight at 7.
