The much-anticipated announcement from the OHSAA has been made and it is has sent everyone scrambling.
The OHSAA said today they support and want all member schools that feel safe enough, to show up tomorrow for practice and get ready to play this fall.
Sounds good right? Sadly, it’s not that simple as schools in Parma, North Olmsted, Fairview and many others have already pulled out. Over 30 schools have already announced they are pulling and cancelling all fall sports. Expect that number to be over 75 within the next 24 hours.
What that does next for scheduling, and everything else that goes into planning a season is anyone’s guess.
On page two of this article you will see the entire press release / email sent to all member schools earlier today by the OHSAA outlining the plan.
Yesterday the Cuyahoga County Board of Health advised home/ virtual school for all students for the first 9 weeks of the school year. They also advised no sports. Many youth leagues have already cancelled and it appears that High School is not that far behind.

Give the kids their sports
Education and sports are needed
The counties that are in yellow or orange should be allowed to continue or prolong the start of season DONT TAKE IT AWAY!!!!
The counties that are red should not be allowed unless can get under control or have negative testings
For the counties in yellow and orange….if you allow sports it’s just a matter of time til you’re red.
I would like to see a delay of fall sports or a switch to spring of football soccer lacrosse. We could play baseball softball golf track all this fall. That is just my idea with basketball wrestling gymnastics bowling starting in January. The sch. Would be conference only.
So the idiots at OHSAA are trying to override the local health departments. None of this board at OHSAA are medically trained. It’s all about the $$$. When, not if, there are outbreaks at schools that paly due to this very poor decision, each member of the OHSAA board is responsible, and needs to be criminally charged.
Thankfully many schools have done the smart thing and cancelled fall sports. It sucks but at least these schools are following the recommendations of the health experts, not a bunch of OHSAA idiots.
