PERRY, Ohio – OHSAA history took place at Perry Alumni Stadium in Perry, Ohio (Lake County) Friday night. Perry Pirates senior quarterback Drew Schiano tosses a state record nine touchdown passes in the 63-54 shootout over the Painesville Riverside Beavers. It has been done nine times in OHSAA history.
Two of Schiano’s favorite targets were senior wide receivers Anthony Rosati and Devon Holbert. The pass catching duo hauled in six of Schiano’s nine touchdowns. If there is a leader after week one for player of the year in Northeast Ohio, Schiano is hands down that guy.
You had to be there to believe what took place. The game last over three and a half hours, but it was well worth it in the end.
Both teams provided highlight material in the second half alone, once Kee On Sports Media arrived. Perry took a 35-21 lead into halftime.
The host Pirates scored first in the second half to increase their lead to 42-21. Most people thought the game was all but over. Not so fast. Riverside would score the next two touchdowns to cut Perry’s lead to 42-35.
The Pirates would get a two score lead back at 49-35, only to have the visiting Beavers get back within one score at 49-42.
Riverside could not get the game tied up as Perry would keep control of the game the rest of the way.
