It was all New Bremen as they rolled over Warren John F. Kennedy 31-0 to capture the OHSAA Division II State Championship.
After a slow first half that saw only one score when Hunter Schaefer took one in from 39 yards out to cap off a 9 play 80 yard drive, things picked up quickly in the second half as New Bremen piled on 17 points using all three phases of the game.
It started when Mitchell Hays rumbled in from one yard out to push the lead to 14-0. After a Owen Gabel 20 yard field goal following a turnover made it 17-0, it was once again the New Bremen special teams making an impact.
This time it was a 45-yard punt return to pay dirt from David Homan to build a 24-0 lead and put the game away. New Bremen would score one more time with a Dan Homan touchdown catch from Mitchell Hays from 19 yards out to put it away for good.
Hays didn’t have to throw the ball much for his team to be successful. He went 5 for 6 for 81 yards with the touchdown. He also ran for 60 yards on 18 carries with a touchdown. Their main threat was Hunter Schaefer who went for 101 yards on 15 carries. He was the game changer!
Congrats to New Bremen. Also, congrats to JFK on a fine season.
