FULL HIGHLIGHT VIDEO –

CANTON, OH – Cleveland cruised to a 38-3 victory tonight in the OHSAA Division IV State Championship game over a talented Archbishop Alter team. Glenville Tarblooder quarterback Ruel Tomilson led the way with 3 touchdown passes and 207 passing yards on 10 of 17 attempts.  He also ran for 83 yards on 10 attempts with two scores as well.

His main targets were D’Shawntae Jones who went off for 161 rushing yards on 30 attempts with a touchdown.  He also caught 2 balls for 29 yards on the night.  Damarion Witten caught 5 passes for 86 yards for 2 touchdowns.  Quincy Rogers only had one catch, but it was a big one for a 78 yard touchdown to put the game away.

For Alter, Noah Jones led the way with 79 yards on the ground on 10 carries.  Michael Russ had 3 catches for 27 yards while Carter Sheets and Andy Duplain each had a catch.  Henry Reifschneider led the Knights in tackles with 10, 2 behind the line of scrimmage while Okemdi Eze and Connor Watkins each had 7 tackles.

Glenville opened the game with a 14 play, 8-minute drive, moving the ball 92 yards and cashing it in on a Ruel Tomilson 16-yard touchdown run.  They converted several third downs and wore down the Knight defense with size and power.

The first time Alter touched the ball, Glenville forced a fumble and took over on the Knights 40.  It was a thunderous hit causing the ball to come loose instantly. They wasted no timing hitting a 17-yard touchdown pass from Tomilson to Witten to extend the lead to 12-0 as the extra point was once again missed.   The score remained 12-0 as the first quarter came to a close.

With their third turn with the ball, Glenville stuck to the same recipe of ground and pound picking up chunks of yards and converting several third and fourth down attempts. They converted two fourth and ones as a matter of fact. They topped it off with a 38-yard touchdown pass from Tomilson to Witten to extend the lead to 18-0 as they missed another extra point attempt.

Alter showed why they reached this point of the season as they wouldn’t go away without a fight, responding strongly the next time they had the ball with a nice drive inside of the Glenville 10.  They had to settle for a 25-yard Field goal, but it got them on the board with two minutes to go in the first half.

The Tarblooders of Glenville had the clock working against them, but still managed to pull off a two-minute drill to find the endzone one more time.  This time the score came on a Tomilson 2-yard touchdown run with 5 seconds remaining in the half.  This handed Glenville a 26-3 lad at the break.

The Tarblooders cruised from there to take home the 38-3 victory.
