CANTON, Ohio – There is joy in Cleveland tonight at the Tarblooders of Glenville completed a magical season by hoisting up State Championship Gold, by virtue of their 26-6 win over Wyoming. The Tarblooders completed a masterful 16-0 season in route to a title!
They once again road the legs of D’Shawntae Jones who put up 195 yards with 3 touchdowns in the victory. It was the perfect ending to a great season for the large tailback. Also putting up the yards tonight was quarterback Deonte Rucker who had 37 on the ground, but also 91 in the air with a touchdown pass to Damarion Witten who had 3 catches for 81 yards on the night.
Wyoming fought hard and made it interesting at times, but fell behind by too much and could never quite get back in it. Their dual quarterback system of Quaid Hauer and Jack Randman went a combined 20 of 33 with 154 yards and 2 interceptions. The lone Wyoming touchdown came from CJ Hester who ran for 98 yards with a 81 yard tying touchdown in the first quarter.
That 81-yard jaunt by Hester came after the touchdown pass to Witten gave Glenville the 6-0 lead 5 minutes into the game. Both teams missed their extra point however, and the score remained 6-6 as we headed to the second quarter. It was a quarter that saw two touchdown runs from Jones of 29 and 1 yards that gave them a 18-6 lead at the break.
Wyoming simply couldn’t score to get back in it, and then another touchdown run by Jones in the third put it away for good.
