Will Howard didn’t exactly light the world on fire to begin his Ohio State career. He did overcome a slow start to finish with 228 yards on 17 of 28 passing with 3 touchdowns. Howard, was bailed out however on a few of those touchdown tosses by excellent catches from Jeremiah Smith.
In the end, Howard did look compatible and serviceable. How far can it get the Buckeyes in a tough BIGTEN is anyone’s guess, but the simple fact that he calmed down after the rocky start should give the Buckeye faithful some hope. His top threat today was Smith with 6 catches for 92 yards and two scores while Carnell Tate finished with 4 catches for 52 yards with a touchdown.
For Howard to find success however, he will need the help of a strong game which he had at times today, and at times, it wasn’t all there just yet. TreVeyon tallied 65 yards on 8 catches while Quinshon Judkins had 55 yards on 13 carries. Those numbers need to improve and quickly.
Overall, considering it was week one, and everyone was a bit nervous coming out, I’ll give Howard a B- this week.
Next week, they will host Western Michigan at 7:30 in a night showcase.
